The Poverty Task Force of Anaheim has been hard at work over the past year in one-to-one and research meetings focused on addressing the rapidly growing issue of homelessness in Anaheim. Many do not know that during a recent fifteen-year period, from 1990 to 2005, Orange County’s homeless population grew 600% - from 5,000 to 35,000 persons. To put this number in perspective, over that same period Orange County’s general population grew at only 26.8%.
Members of the Poverty Task Force, using the recently released the “10-year Plan to End Homelessness” as a foundation, are drafting a 5-year Plan for Ending Homelessness as a proposal for the City of Anaheim. They hope this plan will serve as a model for other cities in Orange County. For more information, contact Kerry Gallagher at 714-612-5028.
