Life is sacred | Coverage for all
Thriving communities are healthy communities. And healthy communities have access to affordable, quality health coverage. Health care is a safety net that allows parents to better provide for their kids. It also increases the likelihood that kids will not miss as many classes as they would otherwise. Finally, it means that low-income families can get a leg up and sustain their livelihood.
Affordable, accessible, quality health care in Orange County and nationwide is our hope and organizing objective. Just recently, our umbrella network – the PICO National Network – was a major player in signing the new SCHIP legislation into law. Community leaders from organizing efforts in various local communities throughout the nation were present at the signing [link to PICO article].
Recently, we coordinated a Posada for 300 concerned residents as a demonstration of the need for all children to find “medical refuge” through health insurance. As well, we secured funding in San Juan Capistrano for a skate park, focusing specifically on encouraging youth exercise and reducing obesity. We are actively seeking coverage for all kids.
