Parents and community volunteers from CREER and OCCCO participated in a phone banking campaign to educate the public and to ask legislators to continue to fund education for their children.  Over 30 parents made 730 phone calls to constituents in State Senator Tom Harman’s district, and invited people to support the tax extensions that would fill the budget gap and protect communities from greater cuts to education and other vital programs

This was one of many events being held by PICO California and it's affiliates (such as OCCCO) for the state-wide Campaign for California. See our EVENTS page for more information on upcoming events.

San Juan Capistrano City Council passed a parking ban on a street behind a low-income neighborhood in an attempt to deal with overcrowding. OCCCO-trained leaders, along with collaborative partners from CREER, CHEC, and others, presented their findings on the “overcrowding” problem.  Their conclusion: The city as a whole lacked adequate parking and affordable housing options.  The leaders requested that the parking ban be overturned, better communication from the city to residents, and the formation of a subcommittee to explore real, long-term solutions to overcrowding.  215 people attended, including 2 city council members.
